Abstract: Contemporary Issues for Social Studies Teaching is a handbook designed for high school social studies teachers. This handbook presents a contemporary understanding of social studies and civics and the best practices of contemporary approaches designed by civic educators. Among some of the approaches discussed in the book are inquiry, standards-based education, multiliteracy, values education, critical thinking, and cooperative learning. The authors present social studies as both an integrated discipline and a field of learning. In both cases, the content's structure incorporates the three compulsory components of knowledge, skills, and moral values.
