Abstract: This document contains the Curricular Framework for the Transversal Fundamental Objectives in Chilean middle education. The objectives are general and all-inclusive and focus on the student’s personal development and social and moral conduct. They must be pursued throughout the educational activities that are carried out during the general middle education process. The transversal objectives related to the individual and his or her environment are directly related to the student’s civic and citizenship training within the curricular framework. The transversal objectives must help strengthen the student’s ethical education, guide his or her personal growth and the self-affirmation process, and help the individual understand how he or she relates to other individuals and the world. With regard to the individual and his or her environment, these objectives tend to favor a quality of personal and familiar interaction that is governed by mutual respect, active citizenship, and the appreciation of national identity and democratic coexistence.
