Abstract: The New Program in Civic Education begins with a description of national identity in Algeria and continues with instruction on how to become a good citizen. The book emphasizes the contributions citizens can make to functional social life. It addresses such topics as working as a team; showing solidarity with others in a group; following the rules of school; laws and rules of social contexts outside of school; respecting others; maintaining stable and harmonious relations with others; and taking care of the natural environment. Other important topics include the duties of citizens to the community and the state, including religious and patriotic observances and participation in voting and civil associations.
