Abstract: This document is designed to make the salient contents of the Constitution readable and comprehensible to students of civics and social studies in grades six through twelve of Ghana’s educational system. It constitutes the foundation for other civic education texts. It states what a constitution is and its importance to the citizenry and nation, gives a short history of the 1992 Constitution, and highlights why citizens should know the Constitution. The other topics include citizenship, fundamental human rights and freedoms, duties of a citizen, directive principles of state policy, representation of the people, decentralization, and other constitutional and governance institutions germane to effective citizenship, especially in a democracy. The text is a useful document for adult learners or citizens who are not proficient in the English language.
