Abstract: The author starts with the idea that people are evaluators and that many problems occur when people misinterpret data, situations, and events or what people want to communicate to us or others. Democratic education is incomplete without sound, accurate, and valid assessment that identifies and solves learning problems. The teacher not only assesses student performance, but also teaches students how to assess or self-evaluate. Democratic assessment helps students to improve their learning and achieve learning goals. The teacher is the main designer of assessment and should help students to eliminate their fear of failure in the learning process.
