Abstract: The Discovering My Environment books specify what Algerian students of civics should know about their civic responsibilities toward the community and their environment. Topics include how and why students should respect and care for the natural environment, live as responsible citizens, respect and cooperate with others in the community, respect and honor the authority of adults (teachers and parents), respect each other, respect their time, and take care of their belongings. The books also emphasize the civic duties of patriotism, such as taking care of the national flag, learning about the national anthem, and honoring the calendar of religious days and national holidays.
